Extraction of information from reverberant sound is discussed in the light of basic principles of auditory information acquisition. The most essential of those principles is contourization, i.e., both in the low-high (frequency) dimension, and the time dimension. In the low-high dimension, spectral pitch plays the roleof auditory primary contour. In the time dimension contourization is dependent on auditory mechanisms which are involved in roughness and loudness fluctuation.
